Accutane | Week 1

Hello you. I have an update on my acne. I have just started to take Accutane, actually I am using the generic brand since that is what my health plan covered. It is called Clarus Isotretinoin. My dosage is take one 40mg capsule for 5 days a week taken with a substantial meal. The capsules are rather large and you're not allowed to crush them or chew on them.

I haven't noticed anything abnormal. I have the beginnings of what seems to be a cold. Usually my nose starts to dry and crack and this has started occurring in addition to chapped lips and dehydration. Maybe it the cold or maybe its Accutane. We will find out in a couple weeks once I shake off this cold.

My acne is less inflamed on the cheeks and the pimples I had on my forehead are almost gone. I feel like this is a result on Diane 35. I do experience random cramps and tenderness up north which sucks.

I will keep you posted on how Accutane/Clarus is working out for me.

This is a fun colour. Its eye catching but to be honest I don't wear it often enough.

Appraised | Artificial Nail & Polish Remover, Nailene

I really do like using this for removing regular nail polish. You don't need to fuss with tissues. Everything you need is inside the container.  Inside  there is acetone and a spongy brush that helps to remove the nail polish. It costs around $6 Canadian. I think its worth it.

Appraised | 100% Pure Acetone, Onyx Professional

This is my favorite nail polish remover when I'm removing glittery nail polish and acrylic nails. It really does strip the surrounding skin of moisture and I always need to wash my hands after. I think we all know how hard it is to remove glitter nail polish try this out. I bought mine for $2.99 Canadian at Walmart.

Can you tell I like Xtreme Wear. Here in Canada they cost about $7. I really love the look of this colour. It's modern looking, shiny and dark. Do you like the Xtreme Wear line? If so which colour do you like?

120 Whirlwind White
I really like the white nail look but sadly I haven't found a nice white nail polish that I love. I love the Xtreme Wear line but this colour leaves me wanting. I it lacks pigmentation and takes 3 coats to look good.

270 Lacey Lilac
I know that summer is over but I wanted to share my favorite summer colour. On tan skin it really pops. It has an interesting pinky-blue undertone. The formula is quite nice. The finish is shiny and the nail polish lasts about 4 days with no chips. Mine you I try not to do the dishes whenever possible. Hehehe.

Swatched | Nail Polish for a Pro Nail Manicure, L'Oreal

340 Spice Things Up
I really have funny looking hands, eh? This is the only L'Oreal nail polish I have and I might have to try out some more of the their colours. The formula is nice, it dries fast and it has a decent shine. This is my favorite colour right now. I guess when it comes to nails I'm not a trend setter.

Tag | My Acne Story/Things I wish I Could Tell Myself About Acne and Self Esteem

Hi guys. Welcome to blushing appraisal. My name is Samantha or Sam which ever you prefer. This is going to be a LONG AND BORING POST.

I wanted to talk about Acne and the things I wish someone would have told me about acne. I believe Cassandra Banks has done a video called “Acne: Things I Wish I Knew (Or Could Tell Myself) Before Having Acne”. Not sure if she called it a tag but let’s make it one.
When I was 18 I had pretty good skin, good weight and prefect hair. I wasn't gorgeous or breath taking but I never felt like an ugly duckling. It wasn't until the summer of 2010 when I started to feel I was ugly, SUPER UGLY. When I was younger I had random break outs, one at a time, sporadically all over my face which was manageable. But in the summer of 2010 my face broke out like a volcano on steroids. At the time I had a stressful job, I had a horrible boss and my boyfriend moved to a university that was really far away. It was a really stressful time for me.

For a long time I spent a lot of money using drug store or ‘ dermatological’ brands like Neutragena (Best Drugstore Brand), Biore (Very drying), Neostrata (Kinda liked this one), Proactiv (burnt my skin), Vichy (Seriously, it's like water) etc. And then when that didn't work I thought maybe the harsh chemicals in those products don’t actually help but aggravate my skin. I always thought my skin was super resistant but it wasn't until I started using natural products that I noticed two things: I have sensitive skin (acne = sensitive skin) and that I have dehydrated skin.

Early this year I made a promise to myself that I would get professional help as soon as I landed a full time job. I have been going to my dermatologist since July of this year and it has help. What provoked me to make that promise was that my cystic acne was starting to spread and move downward. This freaked me out.

My acne is what my Derm calls stage 3. This stage/level is the worst. It is nodal or clusters of  acne that flare up. The cystic acne remains under the skin for months without coming to the surface. It is very painful and originally only existed on my cheeks. It started to move down my neck. Not Cute.

From May to the end of September I was one Doxycycline. It’s an antibiotic that helps with inflammation. This did… close to nothing. I say only a slight improvement and it wasn't worth it. I felt nauseous all the time, irritated, chapped lips and maybe this is TMI but I was irregular. Wow. I wrote that… Moving on.

In my last check up my Doctor asked if I had given Accutane any thought. I had decided to go ahead with the treatment a while back and I'm still heading in that direction. I am well aware of the risks and the side effects that come with taking Accutane, so no lectures please. I will be documenting how I feel when I am on it.

When you are on Accutane you have to be on birth control whether you are sexually active or not. And you will have to sign a waiver stating that you will use two form of birth control and have blood tests done once or twice a month. The blood tests are to make sure that your liver is alright. The birth control I was told to use is Diane 35. It is intended for persons with acne. And you are suppose to start taking in a month before you go on Accutane.

I can tell you this; my acne is greatly affected by hormones. I have seen an improvement since I have been taking Diane 35.

Now that I have been overly boring I wanted to show you some pictures of what my skin currently looks like. Please note: THIS IS THE BEST IT AS BEEN IN A LONG TIME:

Lets Start on the forehead.

The pimples are flatter than they have ever been.

Hopefully you can see the holes left by my cystic acne.

Alright the point of the post was what I would tell my younger self:
1. Go to the dermatologist ASAP!
2. Try products for at least two months unless the acne gets seriously worse
3. Be Gentle, it’s hard to use anti-aging items when you’re trying to keep up with acne. So the only real wrinkle prevention is to be as gentle as possible. Don't take it out on your face.
4. Don’t to be so hard on yourself.

The things I tell myself daily

1. Things will get better
2. Don’t stress about the small stuff, if someone makes a comment about your skin. IGNORE IT. Be strong and move on. If someone wants to tell you how they miraculously got rid of their pimples (one non-existent pimple) and how their method can help you. Respond like so: I am on a strict skin care regime that does not allow adding of other acne fighting products since it could fry my skin. But thanks!
3. Focus on your goal and be consistent

Sorry for the long post but I hope this helped.

Hi guys! Its me, again. I have some of the Gen Crush Colours and I wanted to share. I apologizes for my naked thumb but hey I didn't buy 5 colours. The formula varies for each colour but over all I think they are pretty nice glitter nail polishes. I am not a huge fan of glitter nail polishes but the one that I really did like was 'Big Money'. Appraised | Wax Seal Necklace, Ritzy Misfit

Purchased:
I purchased this back in August, on the 29th, 2011 and received it the third week of September. The reason being is that each piece is made to order. Meaning that, no pendant will ever look the same. When purchasing the item you will be asked to specify three things:

1. The letter you want
2. The amount of what I call sloppiness
3. And how you heard about the shop

I chose:
1. The letter "S"
2. I chose a medium amount of flaws
3. I said I was browsing on Etsy and found it. I also saw it on Michele1218's channel

The creator of this necklace clearly states that the item will require at least two weeks before it will be shipped. So be patient! I personally love my necklace. The customer service is amazing after I had purchased the necklace I emailed her and asked for the handmade necklace.  She immediately sent me an invoice and did not charge extra shipping.

When I received the item I was super impressed. The pendant is thick, I will not be able to bend it, it dresses my outfits up and people always notice it. When I wear this people always notice.

*Only thing to note: DO NOT WEAR THIS WHEN BLOW DRYING HAIR, it heats up. lol I had a nice burn at the back of my neck.

Conclusion:
I highly recommend this item and if you're thinking about getting it do it.
You'll love it!

And no, I did not get this for free.

Pendant and Original Chain: $34.43 CAD

Chain: $8.38 CAD

Shipping to Canada: $8.10 CAD
Total: $50.91 CAD

Appraised | Tresemme Instant Refresh Volumizing Dry Shampoo

Cost:
$9.99 CAD

Pros:
-Bottle does not leak
-Slim Bottle
-Citrus scent (if you like that)
-Absorbs some oil

Cons:
-Strong smell
-Hair feels extremely dirty and WET
-Leaves a significant amount of white residue
-Feels wet all day no matter what

Conclusion:
-Again do not recommend for persons who cannot stand the feeling of dirty hair. This products requires me to wash my hair immediately after application
-I dislike the smell of orange

One word:
-Discarded

Tag | 20 Questions!!!

1. Thing you cannot leave the house without?
This is easy. My phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Previously, I had a Blackberry Curve… Not to offend anybody but…Yuck. It would always freeze on me and it would make me soooo mad. On those special occasions I would hurl it across my room out of frustration. This probably did more harm than good but it did make me feel better. Anyway this is not a phone review Sam stay focused. My wallet and keys… I’m sure I could continue to name the standard items but beauty/fashion items that I wouldn't leave the house with … hummm… Earrings. I cannot be without earrings. I feel naked. I really want to buy diamond earrings that have the screwed(?) ends so they don’t fall off. Lately I have been losing earrings like no other. These are my current earrings:

2. Favorite brand of makeup?
Oooo… This is hard. I have no favorite. Hum. Guess that was easy.

3. Favorite flower?
Blue Rose. Yes, I am aware that these do not occur naturally but I love the colour blue. And roses are super classy. Why are they classy? BECAUSE I SAID SO! Now WHAT?! That’s right. :P

4. Favorite clothing store?
When I was younger… Which was a long, loonggg time ago I loved shopping at Le Chateau. I guess I still enjoy shopping there but meh… I have no real preference. I just want the items to be well made.

5. Favorite perfume?
What is my secret scent, MUAHAHA (Scary Laugh.. Why? Because I can). Should I tell you? Alright, but make sure not to tell ANYONE. Whether is winter or summer, fall or spring you will almost always smell this on me… ECHO by Davidoff.

6. Heels or flats?
Lately flats. I just don’t want to come off as a bimbo at work. I’m sure that sounds bad but… its true. I will randomly pull out my 4” heel but that’s usually Weekends. Hey! Do you ever do this.. buy shoes that feel great in store only later to realize… they don’t fit my fat feet. Poo. *TIP* Always go shoe shopping at the end of the day. Your feet will be a little larger and tender. Do not go after a lazy day of pedicuring (apparently that’s a word). The latter is when I usually go shopping… this is an example of a shoe I bought:

Brand: Material Girl. Foolish I know. FYI, I have yet to wear them out. Maybe the shoe fairy will come and shrink my feet.

7. Do you buy brand name?
Yes and no. I like designer items because… I may be crazy. Put some designers do keep they’re resale value. Brands like tiffany, Chanel, Hermes… etc.

8. Favorite colors?
Favorite: Blue, my room is grey blue. if I had to choose a girly colour: Purple To wear: Black and White

9. What is your happiest moment from your childhood?
When I learn to ride a bike. Age 12. The happy feeling was short lived. I drove into a parked truck.

10. How do I cope with boredom?
Well the truth is… I eat. LOL. I eat damn it. I eat a lot. And I’m only partially ashamed of that. I watch youtube. I watch people who make me laugh like: Essiebutton, Zoella280390, sprinkleofglitter… and so on.

11. Things I regret?
I REGRET NOTHING. Not completely true but I make a serious effort to regret nothing. The decisions I make are my own and if I make mistakes they are my mistakes. No one can change me or mold me. I am who I am and I like me. If I’ve said something wrong I acknowledge it, apologize and move on. Life lesson: REALIZE YOU ARE GROWING AND FORGIVE YOURSELF. Do not take that as a license to do as you please.

12. Do you eat fries with a fork?
No. Dig in. You only live once. And put ketchup on it!!! O ya. Which reminds me some people think this is gross. I put ketchup on my poutine. SOOOO good. O jeez now im hungry. :’(

13. Favorite movie?
North and South. The 4 hour BBC production. It’s like pride and prejudice but I better. Richard Armitage plays John Thornton and it’s just awesome. I think it’s his eyes that sell the character. Uhum.. And the chemistry he has with Daniela Denby-Ashe. Love it!.

14. Do you want to get married later on in life?
Yes I would like to. My opinion on relationships is this: I would rather be alone then be sitting waiting for my partner to man up and decide. This may seem inconsiderate but frankly they’re wasting my time. My life. Maybe I’m sounding little like it’s all about me. But girls seriously when a guy is still in limbo on whether he wants to fully commit and already knows you’re committed, have they not made it all about them? And is it not a clear indication that they haven’t matured in their feelings for you? They have created this ‘solo’ act within the relationship. Sometimes is just best to accept you’re going nowhere and move on. *Grrr crazy Sam coming out of the box! Watch out lol.

15. Do you get mad easily?
Very. Well I guess mad is the wrong word. Annoyed is the appropriate term. If you know my well you've seen me get annoyed.

16. Are you into ghost hunting?
No. They don’t exist. I do believe in spirits. Don’t ask what the difference is. I will get annoyed. Jkz.

17. Any phobias?
Nope. I just really hate spiders. Anything with more than 4 legs that’s small creeps me out. I want to kill them ALL. Or pay for someone to do it. BURN YOU CREEPIES! MUAHAHHHA (^:^)

18. Do you bite your nails?
Nope.

19. Have you ever had a near death experience?
Every time I drive. Jkz, The only time was when I hit some guys bumper and instantaneously thought of my dad on impact. My life did flash before my eyes at that moment.

20. What do you order at Starbucks?
Green tea frapp!

BlushingAppraisal | Hello YOU!

I hope you agree that I was cute back in the day. Back in those days I had no skin issues and no stress. Ahh the good old days.

Before I get depressed let me tell you a little about myself. I am a 22 year old Canadian. (No, we do not live in igloos. And no, I do not always say “eh?” at the end of every sentence. Only sometimes.)

For the people that are curious my career has nothing to do with beauty or fashion. I do have a full-time job and I’m surrounding by men all day, every day that don’t care if you’re wearing Chanel or Joe Fresh. That sounded a little sketchy. I am a Civil Engineering Technologist. Feel free to Google what that might be.

Why I chose to start a blog? I was looking around at the items I have and realized I have a lot. Sometimes I forget why I hated a specific item only later to realize..” O ya, it breaks me out. Way to go Sam.” :S

Topics that I plan to talk about are as follows:
- Skincare
- Makeup
- Beauty Tools
- Fashion *decision still pending* (Ahh, I can never find anything nice to wear! (Excuse to go shopping lol)
- Purchases

Anyway, talk to you soon!!
