Baby Katie | Being a Mom

On October 6th, 2014 my fur-baby was born.
Katie is a pure bred Great Dane. She is out of Arthur (Sir Arthur Of Dantry) and Hannah (CH Dantrydanes I Luv Ya).

She is the cutest and clumsiest thing I've ever seen.

Originally, Mr. B wanted a German Sheppard... His reason was that they are amazing dogs if you train them properly.

Anyway, we started visiting kennels in July. It made sense to us at the time to get on a waiting list because we had just signed to build our cute little house. We visited a couple German Shepard kennels and accidentally met a gorgeous Great Dane. Mr. B was surprised at how affectionate the Dane was. It was at that moment he changed his tune and agreed we should look at buying a Great Dane.

When we started the Great Dane search we checked out a couple breeders around our area and decided to buy a dog from Dantry Danes. Dantry produces blacks, blue fawns, and blues. We decided to go with black because there wasn't a waiting list.

When Dantry contacted us about a new litter of two female black puppies we were overjoyed. Now, when I first met Katie.... Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with her attitude. She was a little stubborn and unaffectionate but I think that's just her being a puppy and extremely distractable.

We've had Katie in our lives for almost a year and yes it's been hard but fun. She is kind of like a snobby kid. She shows affection, to her parents, when she feels like it. When she's not in the mood for cuddling she will literally get up and move to a new location and blow air out of she jowls.

Between myself and Mr. B, she definitely prefers dad. She loves men.

Anyway, I'll let you go.... I'm off to bed.

Update | During my hiatus

It’s been over a year and my hiatus is looking a little extreme.
I thought I would take some time off and re-focus.
It has been a whirlwind.

I got engaged! I’m building a house! I’m a mom!

I will start off by sharing my engagement story.

March 27th, 2014, Mr. B did not get down on one knee… but he did imply he wanted to marry me.

As usual I, the ‘destroyer of all surprises’, ruined his planned proposal attempts. It came to the point where Mr. B just decided it was time to get it done.

Mr. B went out for pizza (Domino's if you’re wondering), bought flowers and plopped the ring box on top of the pizza box. When I open the door I noticed the flowers looked at him confused and then I saw the little white box.

Proposal time:
I said ‘Really?’
Mr. B said ‘Do you want to?’
I said ‘Ya.’
I took the box and then thought what the hell “Are you going to put it on me?!”

And there it was, my ring.

(forgive my wrinkly hands)

Right at the beginning of my engagement I informed hubby-to-be that we would not start planning the wedding until September 2014. I waited about 3 days and started trying on dresses. I bought my dress on April 11th. I guess this shows you how disciplined I am.

During that week of secretly trying on dresses, I went to many dress shops. For me customer service is everything. When I finally scheduled my appointment at Taylor's Bridal in Elmira, I knew I had finally found the right place to buy my dress. It was the first dress I tried on at the store. Like with any clothing purchase once you've made you decision I think it's prudent to try on a couple more and see if you feel the same. I did but I still loved it. It is very different than what I thought I would buy but since then I have not looked at another wedding dress.  I'm happy.

A couple weeks later we decided our wedding would be July 26th, 2015 at Langdon Hall. I believe the exact words that came out of my mouth when I saw it was "This is where I'm getting married".

You might find this weird but I haven’t really told anyone outside the family and co-workers. I’m Hispanic… I’m pretty sure other Hispanics will agree that when are planning a wedding you are expected to invite everyone and their dog. Also, the entire guest listed you invited are allowed to invite anyone else they feel like inviting. At least in my area, that’s how it feels.

I’m a strong believer that on your wedding day you should be surrounded by people who genuinely love and support you and your partner. No extras. My list consists of 42 people (including kids).

In reality the smaller the wedding the easier it is to have a really nice wedding.

In the middle of July Mr. B & I decided to go house hunting... We found a house we love. Actually, we're building it they should be done in February. I will share my experience a later. We are actually thinking of doing a civil ceremony in February.

:)

Any-who I’ll let you go. Buh-bye!
